Peace, The Band

by Luis Arturo Perdomo / @C00luis

Peace is a quartet from Birmingham, England and one of the promises of the British music scene. It’s conformed by Harrison Koisser (voice & guitar) and Samuel Koisser (bass), Douglas Castle (guitar) and Dominic Boyce (drums). These boys are playing since late 2011, but it was in April 2012 when they released their first song + video “Follow Baby”. Months later they launched their first EP titled Delicious, this time a song named “Bloodshake” was the material for their second video.

Peace, The Band

Columbia Records will release the first Peace LP titled “In Love” on March 25th. While we wait for the album to hit the shelves, we can listen to “Wraith”. They also used this opportunity to relaunch “Follow Baby” with a new video and a better production quality, and the song is one of the tracks of “In Love” as well.

The UK has always been a pretty interesting place in the music business and it still is. This year has already a long list of British bands that could become massive worldwide hits, and although Peace was my favorite of the bunch, it isn’t the only one I can recommend: Palma Violets, Splashh, Temples, Swin Deep and others sound in this 8track 8tracks that I made. Hit Play and enjoy!

Monday February 25th, 2013 08:50 Robert DeLong: The New Electronic Music Prodigy

WHO: Robert DeLong: Multi-instrumentalist Electronic Music Artist
LINK: www.robertdelong.com

Robert Delong

By Luís Arturo Perdomo / @c00luis

Robert DeLong is a multi-instrumentalist artist from Seattle that moved to Los Angeles to start a career as a musician. He just launched a new album on February 5th titled Just Movement. You can hear a variety of genres in the record, but the electronic side of the equation leads the way. The impressive part of this debut effort is that DeLong played every single instrument in it, even the percussion, synths, drums, keyboards, and consoles. He also plays all these instruments live.

Robert Delong

Just Movement was launched via Glassnote Records, a record label that has a pretty interesting catalog of artists under its sleeve. Really well known bands like Mumford & Sons, Phoenix, Two Door Cinema Club and The Temper Trap shares the label with new offerings like Daughter, CHVRCHES and DeLong himself.

Robert Delong

Towards the end of 2012 he launched a promotional video for Global Concepts, his first official single (below). If you hit play you can see (and listen) how he plays the keyboard and the percussion.

I invite you to join this unusual electronic offering that will surely be something to talk about this year.

Don’t you believe me? Just click play below so you can see how he rocked on the David Letterman late night show.

You can listen to Just Movement in its entirety, courtesy of Billboard, clicking here.

Thursday November 8th, 2012 19:47 HARD: DAY of the DEAD or How I danced with Justice

WHAT: Hard Day of The Dead

@IsaacBonyuet

LA is the melting pot of various cultures, and in the month of November we have the Day of the Dead celebration. HARD Day of the Dead tied together electronic music with the Hispanic festivity, the result is an imitation of the long gone raves right in downtown LA. It offered diverse artists such as Baaure, Kill The Noise, Jack Beats, Major Lazer, Destructo, Diplo and Justice, to which costume-wearing attendees shuffled to.

“Raves” nowadays are characterized by girls wearing very little to no clothes, or even duct tape on their boobs. Lots of illegal substances, and to satisfy the inner child of everyone it must have a Ferris Wheel and a Pirate Ship. Basically, a carnival for adults.

The festival had a total of 4 stages spread around the Los Angeles State Historic Park, with continuous music from 6pm until 2am. With stages decorated with skeletons, and allusions to the remembrance of the dead, it was a notice that we are alive and we have to enjoy ourselves #YOLO.

The music genres present in this EDM festival were dubstep, disco house, top 40 hits remixed, and reggaeton. Personally, the main attraction of the night was the french band Justice. They started their set with a deafening sound which dissolved into their first song of their first album: Genesis. The crowd was enjoying the show intensely while Justice played songs like Phantom, DVNO, Stress, D.A.N.C.E., Civilization, Horsepower and many more.

Saturday June 2nd, 2012 22:49 REVIEW: Jack White @ The Wiltern

Impulsive, mysterious, controlling and unpredictable can describe Jack White. Much more than that, Jack White is a genius. Of course, it’s not hard for someone like that to sell out the Wiltern in Los Angeles, California for two nights, he could easily sell out larger venues but White prefers to maintain a certain level of intimacy in his shows. With an established career as a legend, it’s was very special to see one of his shows in such a small venue. The 36 year-old that has three successful bands under his belt (The White Stripes, The Raconteurs and The Dead Weather) still keeps doing what he does best: great music.

Having relocated to Nashville, Tennessee with his label Third Man Records has given him a chance to collaborate with a wide array of musicians, from Insane Clown Posse to even TV-host Stephen Colbert.

Being in Nashville implies that you must play country music. And I don’t mean the kind of country that sucks like Billy Ray Cyrus or Shania Twain. Jack White plays country music in his own way, taking inspiration from Hank Williams and mixing it with delta blues and folk.

This night in particular, he is supported by a band made only of females which are called “The Peacocks”, they came from all over the place: LA, Nashville, Alabama and even Denmark. The distance taken to recruit these people makes you confident that they looked only for the best musicians that can keep up with Jack White.

The set included material from his new soloist album called ”Blunderbuss”, there were also song from The White Stripes and The Raconteurs. A musical journey that represented the evolution of styles that Jack White has taken. It would be safe to say that he is currently on his “save country music” stage, and rescue it from the bad reputation that commercial labels gave it.

Thursday April 26th, 2012 21:33 Sziget: Rock in the Hungarian island

WHAT: Sziget Music Festival
WHERE: Obudai-Sziget, Budapest
WHEN: August 6th-13th, 2012

By Veronica Estrada

With the Spring’s arrival it’s time to schedule which summer festival we are going to assist. In this case forget about London, Barcelona and even the oh-so-trendy Berlin, in CoolHunting Project we recommend you the cooler festival of them all: Europe’s Sziget Fesztivál in the lovely Hungary.

Sziget means island and this nonstop one week party has activities 24/7. It’s made in Obudai-Sziget, a big island on the Danubio in the heart of Budapest. It’s a place to disconnect yourself from reality. There you can stay inside a tent while you are enjoying multiple activities; you’ll find concerts, circus acts, theatre, movies, sports and expositions.

Sziget’s content manager, Fruzcina Szep, says the tagline for the festival is “to live an experience about freedom”. This is an open minded event where more than 60 different nationalities get together in a single place. Aproximately more than 400.000 will step into the island during the festival.

Fruzsina Szép

This year the Sziget Festival will be from August 6th to the 13th and even though there are a few acts still to be confirmed, names like The Horrors, The XX, Mando Diao, Korn, Bebel Gilberto, The Vaccines, Placebo and The Stone Roses reunion are on schedule to perform. Muchachito Bombo, Inferno, Che Sudaka y Selva sur will be the Spanish representation while Molotov and Los de Abajo will be the ones on charge to show how Mexicans bang their heads.

The Danubio’s Woodstock, like many people called the festival, was awarded last year like Best European Festival by the European Festival Awards and several musicians put it high up there between his five favorite places to play (Artist’s Favorite European Festival). On the other hand, the English newspaper The Independent has it in his top 5.

Do you really need extra reasons to go inside this incredible musical adventure in the heart of the mystic central Europe?

FUN. @ The Hollywood Tower

Review by Greta Álvarez @Grets

Photos and Videos by Isaac Bonyuet  @IsaacBonyuet

Who would have thought that “fun” was an adjective standing aside from the indie movement, that it would come from New York and that it would give us one of the best songs of the season. That’s right, Fun is a band from New York that recently launched their second LP titled “Some Nights”, his popularity came after they gave one of their songs to the hit TV. show Glee and to a Chevy commercial that aired during the Super Bowl XLVI and that it’s still on TV playing a lot.

FUN. @ The Hollywood Tower

Two weekends ago I went to see them a day before the launching of “Some Nights” in an acoustic concert organized by 98.7FM on the penthouse roof of The Hollywood Tower. After the host introduced them with the routine line: “Are you guys having FUN?”, this time with a gimmick that made us smile in an almost forced way.

FUN. @ The Hollywood Tower

With the appearance of the vocalist Nate Ruess, guitarrist Andrew Dost and pianist Jack Antonoff to the stage and after just a few notes of the first song of the night, I noticed Andrew has one of the best voices of these indie pop trend. I could not avoid telling to myself: “if this was The Voice everyone would turn around in a second”. His voice makes you feel the lyrics, enjoy the music and ask for more.

Live they make justice to their name: they’re fun. A trio of young musicians that between songs love to make jokes remembering personal anecdotes. That day they had a neo-preppy style à la “The Breakfast Club” mixed with some up-to-date touches like wearing skinny pants rolled up ’till the ankles (cropped legs).
Hearty sympathy, catchy melodies and one of the best modern voices. That’s Fun.

FUN. with Lizandro, Greta and Isaac
